Bangkok was quick to jump on the hipster cafe bandwagon, sprouting new joints all over town. You’ve heard of and enjoyed ultra-famous, legendary hot spots like the Rocket Coffeebar, After You Dessert Cafe, Roast, and Vanilla, but today, we bring to you these well-loved but lesser-known cafes, all within walking distance from a BTS or MRT train station. As a bonus, we caught up with Channel 3 Actor “Care” Wongwachira Petchkeaw at one of his favorite cafes in Bangkok. Scroll to the bottom for super hot photos and a mini-interview. ;)

Roots (BTS Thonglor & BTS Surasak)

Sathorn-dwellers put your hands up! Roots, sibling of Roast, has a (fairly) new cafe open by BTS Surasak. Known for its beautiful coffee blends, Roots offers drinks made with a variety of coffee beans, perfectly brewed to satisfy Bangkok’s coffee connoisseurs. The Thonglor branch is housed within The Commons, the oh-so-popular co-eating social space. Adventurous wanderers will appreciate Roots’ unique coffee-based concoctions, but even the classic beverages here taste better than average. We gotta note, however, that Roots does not serve tea or non-coffee beverages. For the best tea places in Bangkok, read on!

Peace Oriental Teahouse (BTS Phrom Phong & MRT Rama 9)

Matcha lovers rejoice! Peace Oriental Teahouse not only offers some of Bangkok’s finest, most richest tea beverages and desserts, but also an experience most delightful for your five senses. Sit at the beautiful wooden bar to learn from the tea master or take a seat at one of their Japanese-style tables and breathe in the fresh smells of traditionally brewed tea. We are in love with their thick and creamy matcha ice cream called the Matcha Extremist, rich March ice cream covered in charcoal powder served with aromatic sticky rice. Drop by Peace Oriental Teahouse to be transported to the land of the rising sun.

CHEEVIT CHEEVA FINE DESSERTS (BTS Siam)

This little Thai-fusion bingsu (ice flake dessert) cafe from the northern hills of Chiangmai Mai seeks to please your palates with their oh-so-adorable and heavenly desserts like the salted egg yolk, “bua loi” (Thai sticky, chewy dumpling dessert) bingsu, melon mascarpone bingsu, and matcha tiramisu. The decor is cute and unpretentious—we’re a big fan! CHEEVIT CHEEVA FINE DESSERTS is a must-try for travelers interested in Thai desserts and all lovers of sweet treats.

ร้านคาเฟ่ฟิวชั่นบิงซูสไตล์ไทยเจ้าดังจากเชียงใหม่ ได้เปิดสาขาแรกติด BTS สยาม เอาใจสายหวาน ให้ได้ลิ้มลอง และง่ายต่อการเดินทาง ไม่ต้องไปถึงเชียงใหม่แล้วล่ะเจ้า ที่ร้านมีเมนูหลากหลาย นำเสนอในรูปแบบของขนมไทยให้ทุกคนได้ดับร้อน เหมาะกับประเทศไทยเป็นอย่างมาก ไม่ว่าจะเป็น บิงซูบัวลอยไข่หวาน บิงซู mascarpone ทีรามิซุชาเขียว การตกแต่งร้านก็คงคอนเซ็ปต์หวานๆ คิ้วท์ๆ เน้นสีสว่าง สีชมพูอ่อน สีสันสดใส แนวธรรมชาติ ทำให้รู้สึกผ่อนคลาย มีชีวิตชีวาสมชื่อร้านเลยค่ะ ใครที่ชื่นชอบขนมไทย หรือของหวานสไตล์ฟิวชั่น ก็ต้องลองที่นี้เลย

KERK CAFE (BTS Chong Nonsri) 

Silom/Sathorn’s new hipster resident, KERK CAFE, is one of our new favorite places to hang out. It is steps away from BTS Chong Nonsri, boasts an Insta-worthy monochrome interior, and offers an interesting menu of two-layer fusion coffees and drinks that keep people coming back. Tantalize your taste buds with “cocktails” like a coffee and coconut water blend, the croissant with Thai pandan, the coconut butterfly pea latte, and their special frozen beer.

ร้านคาเฟ่ใหม่ตกแต่งสไตล์เรียบเท่ โทนขาวดำ อยู่ติด BTS ช่องนนทรี เป็นหนึ่งในคาเฟ่ ที่สายฮิปสเตอร์ต้องไป เพราะมีมุมถ่ายรูปเท่ๆเพียบ เปิดบริการตั้งแต่เช้าให้นักท่องเที่ยวหรือคนทำงานได้มาจิบกาแฟหรือทานอาหารเช้าก่อนไปเที่ยว-ไปทำงาน แถมยังนำเสนอเมนูเครื่องดื่มในแบบ Layer ที่ทำให้มีหลากสีในแก้วเดียว ทำให้ดูสวย น่าสนใจไปอีกแบบ คือได้ถ่ายอวดเพื่อนๆในอิสตราแกรมอีกด้วย ใครที่มาแฮ้งเอ้าค์กับเพื่อนในช่วงเย็นก็สามารถจิบเบียร์ปั่นหรือค็อกเทล ให้ได้ดื่มผ่อนคลายหลังจากการทำงานมาทั้งวัน

WWA Portal (BTS Asoke/MRT Sukhumvit) 

Asoke’s newest coffee lab is conveniently located next to BTS Asoke/MRT Sukhumvit, mother of all traffic jams in Bangkok. It is minimally-chic, fresh white, and very ideal for chilling out with friends and snapping selfies. Nearly the entire menu is coffee-based, with rare beans like the Ethiopia Geisha and the Azalea Hill Park. The decor and entire establishment is something out of an artsy-fartsy design student’s wet dream (said by an artsy-fartsy design student).

คาเฟ่ห้องแล็บอยู่ติด BTS อโศก/MRT สุขุมวิท ท่ามกลางเมืองที่วุ่นวาย รถติดมหาโหด แต่เชื่อว่าใครเข้าไปในร้าน ต้องจิตใจสงบลงแน่นอน เพราะการตกแต่งร้านโทนขาว สะอาดตา รอบร้านติดกระจก ให้ได้เห็นบรรยากาศภายในร้านและนอกร้าน WWA Portal คงคอนเซ็ปต์ less is more ให้ได้ถ่ายรูป นั่งชิวกับเพื่อนๆ ซึ่งทางร้านก็มีเมล็ดกาแฟนำเข้าหลากหลายสายพันธุ์ หลากหลายที่มาให้เราได้เลือกชิม เป็นเมล็ดพันธุ์หายาก เช่น Ethiopia Geisha และ Azalea Hill Park สำหรับคนที่ไม่ดื่มกาแฟ ทางร้านก็มีเมนูอื่นๆมาให้เลือกกันน้า

Pan Cafe (BTS Saladaeng/MRT Silom) 

This Silom bakery is the perfect escape for those who think bread is the world’s greatest invention and consumes enough calories to prove it. Their drinks are Japanese style and their bread is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Sample their honey toast, pancakes, and Italian sodas and watch the city go by—thank god you’re not stuck outside in this deathly heat! 

ใครที่ชื่นชอบขนมปังต้องมาร้านนี้ให้ได้ ตั้งอยู่กลางสีลม ตกแต่งร้านสไตล์ญี่ปุ่น ขนมก็สไตล์ญี่ปุ่น มีทั้งเครื่องดื่มและเบเกอร์รี่ ซึ่งเขาเคลมว่าเบเกอร์รี่นั้นทำสดใหม่ทุกวัน ขนมปังก็อร่อย กรอบนอกนุ่มใน มีทั้งเครื่องดื่มอิตาเลี่ยนโซดาให้ได้ลองชิม โกโก้ กาแฟ และเมนูแพนเค้ก ฮันนี่โทสต์ ขนมปัง เคร้ป ที่ได้รสสัมผัสนุ่มลิ้นและมีกลิ่มหอมจนต้องกลับมาอีกครั้งเลย

Everyday Karmakamet (BTS Siam & BTS Saladaeng/MRT Silom)

This adorable lifestyle shop slash cafe reminds the people of Bangkok to live a life of positivity through simple but tasteful merchandise with inspirational quotes and hand-drawn images decorating the walls. Visitors are invited to share the love using the crayons and empty postcards provided. The cafe always smells gorgeous, thanks to the fragrant products on display. The self-care concept at Everyday Karmakamet totally works, especially when it comes with delicious drinks such as their uniquely flavored milk teas—Irish Cream, Butterscotch, Rose, and much more. Our favorite is the French Vanilla Milk Tea. It is delicate, aromatic most importantly, not too sweet. Go give it a try!

ร้านคาเฟ่สุดชิค ที่มีคาแรคเตอร์โดดเด่น ได้ให้ข้อคิดดีๆในการใช้ชีวิตของคนกรุงเทพฯ ผ่านคำพูดโดนๆ และผลงานศิลปะอาร์ตๆ ที่ติดตามฝาผนัง ฝีมือผู้คนที่มานั่งจิบกาแฟที่นี่นั่นเอง ทางร้านจะมีสีและกระดาษให้เราได้วาดหรือทั้งข้อความดีๆ ไว้ให้ผู้อื่น พร้อมกับไปจิบเครื่องดื่มเพลินๆไป ที่นี่มีชานมรสแปลกๆ แต่อร่อยมาก เช่น Irish Cream, Butterscotch, และ Rose แต่ที่ชอบที่สุดคงเป็น French Vanilla Milk Tea ที่มีกลิ่มหอมมัน และไม่หวานเลี่ยนจนเกินไป บรรยากาศที่ร้านโดนมาก ใครอยากมานั่งหาไอเดีย เม้ามอยก็มาที่นี้เลย ไม่เท่านั้นนะ ทั่วทั้งร้านยังอบอวนไปด้วยกลิ่นเครื่องหอมปนกับกาแฟ เพราะทางร้านมี product หอมฟุ้งวางจำหน่ายด้วยค่า

Bangkok’s Best By Bangkok Locals: Care Wongwachira at Pompano Roasted Cafe

“I’m into vintage cars, vintage things, and vintage cafes, so Pompano Roasted Cafe (MRT Kamphaeng Phet) is one of my favorite places to hang out in Bangkok,” says Channel 3 Actor “Care” Wongwachira Petchkeaw (@care_wpk on Instagram). “The cafe is in The Camp - Vintage Flea Market, so there’s lots of antiques and second-hand things to look at here. I’m kind of old fashioned that way.”

“Does that mean we’d find you in period/historical dramas?”

“I actually really enjoy taking on an action/drama kind of role. I like working out, hiking up mountains, all that stuff. I had a lot of fun playing A in this TV show called The Man Series. There were a few good fighting scenes.”

“จริงๆ ผมชอบบทบู๊ไม่ก็ดราม่าหน่อย เพราะผมชอบออกกำลังกาย เข้ายิม ปีนเขา อะไรแบบนั้น ในเรื่องซีรี่ย์ลูกผู้ชยา ผมได้มีโอกาสรับบทเป็นเอ ซึ่งมีฉากต่อสู้ค่อนข้างมาก สนุกดีครับ”

A lover of animals and nature, Care spends most of his free time traveling outside of Bangkok. He prefers mountains and waterfalls to beaches, and enjoys taking landscape photos. His favorite place to getaway is Krung Ching Waterfall in Nakhon Sri Thammasat Province, and as you already know, Care is really into the vintage scene.
