After discovering their unique sounds at the Hua Hin Jazz Festival, BangkokHaps proudly presents the first of three singles recorded in Bangkok by the Siamese Katz.

Led by Frank Herrgott and Arnaud Francelet, the Siamese Katz is a product of the Bangkok Jazz scene. Since their first meeting at Saxophone Club, the Siamese Katz have recorded three live videos at the Creative Music Studio in Bangkok. We are delighted to introduce you to their first one.

Questions to Frank and Arnaud

Can you introduce us to this new project?

Arnaud (bass) : I wanted to start a new musical project in Asia. I met Frank during a concert at the Saxophone Club in Bangkok. 2 years later, I contacted him on social networks without knowing if we would get along musically. We did not know where it was going to lead us. But after several meetings we felt that our compositions had an identity and an original touch.

Frank (piano) : Arnaud actually contacted me via Facebook. We met, talked, played some jazz standards and improvised together. We immediately got along well. Then we worked on compositions and quickly decided to record them. As we love to play live, we also talked about going on stage to perform our songs for people. Arnaud and I come from jazz and pop. However, for our project, we were looking for a specific sound color, a sophisticated but accessible sound design. That’s why we called our Iranian friend Dave Davani - an excellent DJ, sound engineer and producer – who added his artistic touch to our music. That's how the Siamese Katz were born!

Arnaud (เบส) : ผมอยากเริ่มโปรเจคดนตรีใหม่ในเอเชีย ผมพบแฟรงค์ระหว่างคอนเสิร์ตที่แซ็กโซโฟนคลับในกรุงเทพ 2 ปีต่อมาผมติดต่อเขาทางโซเชียลเน็ตเวิร์กโดยไม่รู้ว่าเราจะเข้ากันทางดนตรีได้ไหม เราไม่รู้ว่ามันจะนำพาเราไปทางไหน แต่หลังจากได้พบพูดคุยกันหลายครั้งเรารู้สึกว่าเพลงของเรามีเอกลักษณ์และความแหวกแนว

Frank (เปียโน) : Arnaud ติดต่อผมผ่านทาง Facebook เราพบพูดคุย เล่นstandardแจ๊สและด้นสด(improvise)ร่วมกัน เราเข้ากันได้ดีทันที จากนั้นเราก็แต่งเพลงและตัดสินใจที่จะอัดมันอย่างรวดเร็ว เราชอบเล่นดนตรีสด ก็เลยคุยกันว่า อยากแสดงดนตรีด้วยกัน Arnaud และผมมาจากสายดนตรีแจ๊สและป๊อป แต่สำหรับโปรเจคของเรา เรามองหาสีเสียงที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ มีการออกแบบเสียงที่ซับซ้อน แต่เข้าถึงได้ นั่นเป็นเหตุผลที่เราชวนเพื่อนของเรา Dave Davani ซึ่งเป็นดีเจและโปรดิวเซอร์ที่ยอดเยี่ยมที่เพิ่มสัมผัสศิลปะของเพลง Siamese Katz จึงเกิดขึ้นมา!

What is your relationship to Bangkok?

Arnaud: For me Bangkok is my second home. I immediately had a good feeling with this megalopolis. The contrast with my country (Switzerland) inspires me a lot.

Frank : I‘ve been passionate about Thailand since my first trip in 2003. I returned in 2004 for 5 concerts in Phuket (just before the tsunami). Then, I went back every year until 2013, when I decided to finally settle down in Bangkok. It's been 6 years since I am a musician, producer and organizer in the “City of Angels”. I enjoy its eclecticism, contrasts and extravagances!

Arnaud: กรุงเทพเป็นบ้านหลังที่สองของผม ผมมีความรู้สึกที่ดีกับมหานครนี้ทันที ความแตกต่างกับประเทศของผม (สวิตเซอร์แลนด์) เป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้ผมอย่างมาก

Frank :ผมหลงใหลเกี่ยวกับประเทศไทยมาตั้งแต่การเดินทางครั้งแรกของผมในปี 2546 ผมกลับมาในปี 2547 เพื่อนเล่นคอนเสิร์ต 5 ครั้งที่ภูเก็ต (ก่อนเกิดสึนามิ) จากนั้นผมกลับไปทุกปีจนถึงปี 2556 ผมตัดสินใจที่จะตั้งรกรากอยู่ในกรุงเทพฯ ตอนนี้ก็ 6 ปีแล้วที่ผมมาเป็นนักดนตรีโปรดิวเซอร์และผู้จัดงานeventใน "City of Angels" ผมสนุกกับการผสมผสาน ความแตกต่างและความฟุ้งของกรุงเทพ

When can we hear more ?

Frank : The Siamese Katz will treat you and for a long time! We are very lucky to have social networks to promote our music. We also know that, to be noticed, you have to be consistent and regular. To date, we have already recorded 5 titles in studio including 3 videos (the 2 other videos will be filmed outside the studio). On a live video we had a special guest: Koh Saxman who honored us with his presence and his wonderful playing. With 5 titles in a box, we have plenty to post ... at least until October when we will record our album and our next video clips.

Arnaud : I think we are a creative and productive team. We will regularly present new compositions to our public.

Arnaud: ผมคิดว่าเราเป็นทีมที่สร้างสรรค์และมีประสิทธิผล เราจะนำเสนอการประพันธ์เพลงใหม่สู่ผู้ฟังอย่างสม่ำเสมอ

What about live gigs, will you be performing soon in Bangkok ?

Frank : We will be active in Bangkok this coming October. All upcoming dates will be announced on our social networks. We will also film a live concert in the studio in front of an audience that we must limit to 30 people! It's terrible to have to select! (laugh). So we are launching our great game of the season: we will draw 5 names among our friends Internet users who kindly support us and share our video “Empreintes”. The lucky winners will be personally invited to our private concert. The sound will be amazing!
